Disable iPhone GPRS/Data/Edge

Hi guys... wow it's been a while I didn't update this blog. It must full with dust and spider web already.. hehehe.

Alright.. This time I found out there is an alternative method how to disable data/edge connection for Iphone 2G or 3G. It is very simple and you don't have to install any program at all. Yup yup you hear me right.. No need to install any program like the previous post. It's like 1-2-3... a-b-c...Here is how to do it.

  1. Go to Setting
  2. General
  3. Network
  4. Choose the first option i.e. Cellular Data Network
  5. Key-in all the Advanced setting (APN, Username & Password) as "disable".

By doing this it will not allowed any Data connection via your network. If you surf internet via Safari.. You will only have access using Wifi. However if you leave all these blank then Iphone is able to get data connection automatically so that's how to turn "on" the data/edge connection.

Am using Iphone 2G ver 2.2 and I believe it would be the same for Iphone 3G.

  1. This option is not there on the new 3.0 software. I would be cancelling my iPhone Data plan soon(after my 2 year contract with ATT) and save $20/month because I see that I am always connected to WI-FI (@ home and office) except while driving. I still love my 2G iphone.

  4. Hi there,
Thank you for visiting my blog.
When I'm writing the post on Jan & May am still using Maxis but when I switch to Celcom postpaid am afraid those 2 methods not exactly working.
Celcom still uploading data from time to time. I ask my friend who work with Maxis and she advise better get the unlimited data plan if using Celcom (minimum is RM68) but if you're using Maxis/Hotlink most probably these two methods will works.

I've tried to download BBSetting ( http://www.malaysiaiphone.com/blog/tips-how-to-disable-3gedge-on-iphone/ ) but still not working perfectly. Upgrading the firmware to v3.0 will get worst for the battery (drain sooo fast). Before this i could use the phone for 2 days or at least 1.5days but after upgrade to ver 3 I have to charge the phone before I go to sleep :-(

Am sorry.. at this moment I have no other idea how to reduce your monthly data charges beside upgrade to unlimited data plan (RM68).

    Cheers,
    Alan
