Disable Iphone Data/Edge (2G Iphone)

For those who don't have unlimited data plan, you might have to think twice to pay for the data connection when you're out of Wifi coverage area. Sure you don't want to be in shock to see your bill later on... huhuhu. .

I'm a new user for this Mac product and was lucky to notice this problem :-p
okeh... instead of calling the local network provider to cancel the Edge/data plan you can just install this little software to block or disable iPhone from downloading or uploading data. In other words data connection can only be downloaded or uploaded using Wifi connection only.

Here is how you disable it:
1. Launch Safari on your iPhone
2. Go to http://iphonenodata.com
3. Tap the disable Edge/3G button
4. Tap Install
5. Tap Install Now to Confirm.

wasn't that easy??

  2. Hi Jason, Am glad that this simple method did help you mate.

Hi ℓmay... If you like to turn it back on the data connection then you need to uninstall the software. How to do that? it's very simple
    1) Setting
    2) General
    3) At the bottom before Reset you'll notice an option called Profile (disable-Edge-3G). Click on that
    4) Press on Remove button then the software will be uninstalled

By the way am using Iphone 2G ver 2.2

  3. I noticed this method utilizes a passcode. Does this mean I must create a passcode prior to disabling Edge, or will not having a passcode bypass this step? Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Naaa you don't have to create a passcode if you install this software.. alternatively you can try the other methods on the my 2nd post on disable the data/edge connection which is much easier i would say :-)

  5. Removed software and can't get Edge to work now, any thoughts?

  6. Using 3.0 software.

  7. Never mind, reset network settings and a reboot, re enabled edge and resolved the problem. FYI it works on 3.0 and uninstalls on 3.0. Thanks much.

  8. When I turn the Wireless off, I get the 'E' for Edge. Is that always there? I can I be sure Edge is not working?
    Thanks

  9. I am on GoPhone plan with AT&T. I can not have data plan since it's no longer available starting on June 11th for pre-paid customers. I've been able to connect to my home wi-fi and surf the net.
Should I worry about anything? Like any charge from AT&T?

I got original 2G Iphone by the way.

    Thank you

    ReplyDelete
  10. yeah the symbol "E" will appear if the wireless is off. It's shows your are covered under Edge. However there will be no data/edge connection since you've disable it. try open safari it should say "Could not activate cellular data network: You are not subscribed to a cellular data service"

    GoPhone plan:
If your network provider had no longer provide you the data plan.. then you will be only able to access into internet via wi-fi then :-)

  13. I can confirm that this works for the 3.0 software. I had another fake APN installed to block data and it stopped working with the 3.0 upgrade.

  21. I have a 1st gen iphone with freshly installed 3.0, JBken.

After installing this, my battery dropped about 30-40%.

I reinstalled 3.0, and tried installing this again. This time I kept the iphone next to a normal radio. Once it installed, I hear constant gsm interference, whereas without this file, i only get this interference when turning on the fone, or making a call. which leads me to beleive that when this file is installed, the iphone constantly tries to search for a data network which drains the batt rapidly. This method is not ideal dor me. any other ideas?

  29. Thank you! You're saving me lots of money that I was charged every month for data connections I never intended to use. I have an iPhone 1st gen with Swisscom and it was connecting to the data network randomly without my consent.

  30. I turned my Edge off on using SBSettings on a 2G iphone (Vodphone UK) and after a few weeks use I started to get the same symptoms (quick battery discharge, constantly trying to access interment from Edge denoted by a constant crackling when near a speaker, phone unreachable by other people.

They way I solved it was to restore, but the problem kept reoccurring after a few weeks. Eventually resolved the issue by buying a 3GS.

The phone was JB'd with Redsn0w running 3.0.1. havent tried tried 3.1.2 or Blackra1n JB but it might worth a try.

  47. Hello,

when I turn off WIFI (original iPhone), to test and see if this worked, I still see the "E" in its place. So I go to a webpage and then the rather generic page pops up saying that I will be charged $1.99 per MB. (I'm on T-mobile in NY).
This tells me that the patch/software did not work...am I right?

    Thank you in advance.
